Last weekend we saw David Haye complain about a broken toe and hence he was not 100% in his defeat to Wladimir Klitschko.
His toe was clearly broken. There is no disputing that. And i have no doubt it DID stifle his gameplan somewhat.
However, there have been thousands of injuries suffered within a boxing ring over the years. In many of these cases the injured boxer continued to fight on, lasted the distance, in many cases WON the fight and didn't moan about the injury afterwards. I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that a supremely tough individual like a boxer suck up the pain and not moan about it afterwards.
I will list a few examples i can remember below.
Can anyone else think of any?
Arthur Abraham - Broken jaw:
In round 4 of his first bout with Edison Miranda he gets his jaw broken in two places. To this day i'm not sure i've ever heard him moan about it.
Juan Manuel Marquez - Broken nose:
In his first bout with Manny Pacquiao he was floored 3 times in round 1 and suffered a broken nose. He fought back like a warrior and got a draw.
Sebastian Lujan - Torn off ear:
In his fight against Antonio Margarito in 2005, part of his ear was nearly torn off. The fight was eventually stopped because of it but i can't remember Lujan quitting because of the pain or anything like that.
Arturi Gatti - Broken hands:
Broken hands are not an uncommon injury in boxing. Artuto Gatti suffered broken hands in several of his bouts including against Micky Ward and Gianluca Branco. He still went on to win these fights.
Dean Francis - Dislocated shoulder:
Francis suffered a dislocated shoulder in round 4 against Tommy Eastwood in 2006. Despite this he went on to win a 10 round points decision.

Fernando Vargas - Swollen eye:
Vargas, a boxer famous for fighting anybody, fought Shane Mosley twice in 2006. In their first fight Vargas suffered a swollen eye. The fight was stopped in round 10 because they said Vargas was unable to see properly from his eye and thus unable to defend himself. The cards were very close at the time.
Vitali Klitschko - Eye injury:
In his fight against Lennox Lewis in 2003, he suffered a grotesque eye injury which caused the fight to be stopped. He had cuts above and below his left eye.
