Is Joe Cortez at the microphone a disaster for Showtime Announcing or what? Talk about stating the incredibly obvious. Thankfully they went about three hours between checking in with him, it must be nice to have that gig, four paragraphs of dialogue on a four hour card I think they need to reconsider whether this adds anything or not, IMO they're drilling an empty well.

this was the dumbest move they could have ever made. Forget that Cortez is a terrible ref and that he has been involved with some crazy fights because of HIM....the guy can't speak! He sound like he was George Foreman's human heavybag for ten yrs with a spanish accent. AND...he sounds like he quit school after 4th grade.

Yep, that's why they only went to him twice the other night, he's never going to volunteer anything interesting to say, since he lacks any insight whatsoever, and they felt like they had to go to him simply to justify paying him since he'd been silent for nearly three hours. Eventually someone in the accounting department at Showtime will see his paycheck go by their desk and an internal investigation will uncover that Cortez was on the payroll.........it's not something you realize if you happen to be making a sandwich during his 20 seconds on air

It'll be interesting to see how long they stick with it, my guess is they've already told Joe not to bother showing up anymore and paid off his contract. I mean, when they only go to you for comments twice in a four hour broadcast then your about as valuable as sun tan lotion during a hurricane.

did anyone over there hear of a trial? Cortez is a complete joke, IMO Great point, BC. I can think of two recent examples, both Showtime interestingly enough, where they've hired a guy for the gig without even testing him out, and that's Joe Cortez and Chuck Giampa. Even if you think they are great at what they do (which is debatable as to their abilities as a Ref and Judge, in other words, whether you think they're good at their jobs or not) I haven't the slightest idea why the network just assumes that will translate into being a good broadcaster.
