Last years trip to the Hall of Fame was a nightmare which is a 14 hour journey from the UK,which includes connecting flights. My son dropped a friend and myself off at Heathrow early in the morning,as you have to be at the airport three hours before the flight takes off.Which is understandable with the security which is now in force at the airports, with so mant fanatics on the loose. After checking are main luggage in,we went to departuers to book are hand luggage in through the x-ray machines.Thats when things went horrible wrong,my friend walked through no problem. The alarm bells went off as i walked through, after a body search they found that i had forgot to empty my pockets and had a lot of loose change in them. Then my bag was taken to one side as i was carrying some 16mm films on boxing for a friend of mine in Chicago.I had decided to carry the films over to the USA as my friend said a friend of his from Chicago was going to be at the Hall of Fame, and it would save my friend the expence of postage from the UK.The way the security kept looking at me you would have thought i was trafficking in porno films, after about 30 minutes i was allowed through. Then all hell broke loose,i walked through a door which said exit and alarm bells went off everywhere in the airport.Armed police came running from every corner of the building,i just stood frozen to the spot with my arms up.It appears i walked through the wrong door, after another search i was allowed to go and meet up with my friend.Having to travel for 14hours with a mate taking the piss out of you is no fun,i can assure you of that. Then arriving at Hancock Airport Syracuse i picked up a rental car i had booked,we had booked a hotel in Syracuse which we use most years as its value for money. The hotel is about 8miles from the airport,i got completely lost and it took us 4hours to reach the hotel. So this year i shall be carefull at the airports, and we are going by taxi to the hotel and i shall pick up the rental car the next day.I dont no if the exploits at Heathrow was to blame but i was searched at every airport, which hopefully i will travel free of all the hassel this year.

Dallen- I LOVE that story. I wish I could make it this year, but finances are going to prevent it...but I can certainly understand why you don't look forward to going through security again this time. I just hope your name isn't on some damn list now, once you get on one of those things, they'll delay you everytime As for getting lost from Hancock Airport to the Hotel, you'll love this one....... A couple years back, my Friend Gary was driving up from New Jersey and picking me up at the Airport that evening, and the next day I was returning to get my Rental..... anyway, he starts bragging about the new GPS system he just bought, and plugged in the coordinates and off we went. Well, I've been going for several years and I knew something was up, because it's always been simply 81 South to the I-90 Tollway and then down to the next Exit. But I just let it go, interested to see where it would take us and having a good laugh at the devices apparent daffiness ..........before we're done, the GPS has us in the middle of nowhere, it's getting dark, and worst of all it had stopped being funny anymore It turned out that the GPS had a NO TOLL ROAD option on it, which he had mistakenly checked, so it took us out in the scenic NY Countryside and got us lost in order to save the 20 Cents Toll

Davemurphy,i can understand that finances are going to restrict people from attending the Hall of fame this year. The only reason i am going is that my late wife set up a little trust fund which pays my airfare to the USA once a year before she died.As she new i loved meeting the legends of the ring, and i promised her that i would go as long as i was able to. The airfares this year are up about 33% on last year and the Pound is only $1.40 to the dollar last year it was $1.80 so very expensive to say the least.I just come back from Kenya with my daughter on a all inclusive holiday for two weeks, the cost for the holiday was the price of the airfare to the USA.I had a small pension which matured and it was a dream of my eldist daughter to go and see animals in the wild.So it was money well spent and we had a great time, even caught a barricuda when we went sea fishing. And you got to laugh Dave a young girl of 21,wanted to marry me just to get out of the poverty she was living in.But i declined the offer as it would be damaging to my health at my age.And she was not very keen on boxing which went against her im afraid. We are planning to go to the Bareknuckle hall of fame as well as Canastota, the curator said he would open up on the Sunday for us.So that will be a added bonus to the trip this year, and not forgetting meeting BillyC again.

Lol Dave, the amount of people who seem to have a satnav (GPS) nightmare story is unreal! I don't have one myself but they must be pretty handy if you figure out how the work it properly lol.
Dallen, thats an amazing thing that you carry on the tradition in memory of your wife, for which she has contributed towards financially. Thats a truely touching story.
Your Kenya trip sounds amazing also, I would love to go on an African safari holiday.

dallen- That's a beautiful thing your Wife did for you!!!! I hope you can keep coming to IBHOF for many years to come, I look forward to meeting you, that's for sure. Our Domestic Airfares have exploded, so I'm not surprised to hear that it's effected foreign travel to this country as well, but that's amazing that the flight here is costing the same as the entire trip to Kenya. Shows how outrageous the airlines are. Speaking of which, I love that you got to take your Daughter on her Dream Trip to Africa. It's such an amazing place, things there that you simply can't see anywhere else on the Planet. As a young boy, I used to think about what it would be like to be on a wild Safari, but then I'd see film of a Rhino ramming the Jeep they were in, and I used to think "well, okay, maybe not for me" (ha, ha). Btw, good move staying away from available 21 year old girls, they'll kill ya, but what a way to go!!! It's a once in a lifetime trip you just took, but that doesn't mean you want that lifetime to be cut short Great story, David, but one question I still have and that's "what does one do with a Barricuda when you catch it?" Do you have any pictures, I'd love to see them if you could E-mail them to me (dmurphy618@yahoo.com) or better yet if you had a link to Photobucket or something else where the others on the Forum could see as well. It's something that 99% of us will never get the chance to do, that's for sure. Thanks for sharing!!!

Ton- I think his problem was probably that he bought the GPS on a Monday and drove up to the HOF on Weds I was also moved by dallen's mention of his Wife's wish to keep him coming to the HOF. That's true love.
