Back onto my travelling, are Greyhound busses good for getting around? Are they like all over the place and go from many cities to other cities? I'm thinking of getting a months pass, they are like £300, can't remember how many dollars that works out as though.
Or are trains a better way to go, and if so do they do mothly passes for unlimited use etc?
Any info is appreciated.

Greyhounds will take you 15 hours to get 4 hours ... not a good mode of transportation here in the states

Amtrack (our rail service) is better if the cities your trying to get to are direct routes, unfortunately not all cities have train access, but if your traveling from major city to major city, like it sounds might be the case, then that is preferable to Greyhound. Like Mike says, there's often times when you can spend five or six hours at a time in a Bus Station waiting on a single connection and they're boring......and in some case not the most pleasant of places. The Amtrack Rail Passes USED to be a really good deal, but I went to their Website and they're way higher than I remember them being just a few years ago. A 15 day pass with 8 segments (trips) is $389, a 30 day pass with 12 segments is $579, and 45 day with 18 segments is $749. Whew!!! If they are longer trips, I guess your saving something on the regular price. Here's the website for the Passes www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer/Page/1241305460725/1237405732514

Ton- The prices on the conversions for the above would be: 15 day, 8 segment £266 30 day, 12 segment £398 45 day, 18 segment £513

Dave, thats great advice thanks! Those prices may seem quite steep but I thought they would be quite a bit more lol. The 30 day pas would probably be the most likely one I'd get. Hopefully there are long distance trains which go to the cities I wanna go to, and yes they are all major cities, which is more helpful I guess.
Not long to go now! I've packed my stuff! Just gotta visit a fews friends and family and watch the beginning of the World Cup (England vs USA on Saturday) then I'm off on Sunday!

Ton- That's great, I thought those prices would make you faint Of the cities you mentioned, Nashville,Memphis, Louisville, Chicago, Washington DC, etc. all should have Rail access, maybe in some cases just one train a day to your next destination, but certainly preferable to Greyhound travel. I'm sorry you'll have to leave the UK with the disappointment of a UK loss to the USA but I know you'll have a great time!!!!

Ha, if we (and by we I mean ENGLAND not the UK ) lose to the yanks, our tournament is over! In all honesty I am really hoping England don't win, but purely for selfish reasons. If they did win, the parties and ensuing chaos in England would be unmissable! So I don't want to miss that! I am actually massively gutted that I'll be missing most of the World Cup. I'll be following it closely though if not quite in a visual capacity. And Murph, I also know I'm gonna have a great time! Will make the most of it while I'm over there! I'm really looking forward to a life changing summer

I'm really looking forward to a life changing summer LOL, the thought of missing out on the party is worse than the loss, I love that. I've heard talk from those that know that most of the English Team is really worn down from the constant playing schedule they endure, but it's still kind of hard to envision our winning. As for the life changing summer? Well, it'll be a memorable one for you....but we can't guarantee life changing. But if it is, be sure to drop back by here and let us know her name

LOL, here's to hoping Dave! American girls love a british accent right? As for the England team being tired, thats a poor excuse. They are professional athletes being paid ridiculous amounts of money! They can run around foor 90's minutes a few times a week no problem, and if they can't they shouldn't be playing lol. I'm predicting a 4-1 win for England tomorrow

Best advice might be to pretend to be lost...............even when you aren't Have a great trip!

Was unfortunate for Rob Green, I felt a bit sorry for him! 1-1 is a good result I guess, you guys were the tricky hurdle in the group! Both teams should go through.
I leave at 10am in the morning and should arrive at New York 17 hours later! Not gonna be a fun journey!

As for the game, at least Green kind of made up for it with a crucial save later on. A tie helped both teams, but I know England had it's sites a little higher. Enjoy our Country!!!
