Is a boxing leage a good idea? I'm all for it.
First off, we put all fighters into a pool, and if they want to be the best, then they gotta fight the best. I'm tired of guys like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez being ducked and not given a shot, when they're good fighters. I'm tired of hearing guys like Floyd Bragging bout being the best, when he cherry picks his opponents. To move up, you gotta beat a guy or 2 ranked above you. Also we could rid of all these WBO, IBF, WBA, ABC, 123, etc... boxing associations and all there crappy belts, and we can have a true champion. Cuz some guys who have belts don't deserve it.
Also, after listening to tha Victor Conte interview, I think we need a better way of drug testing to make the sport more legit. Once a fighter moves into the top 10 of 15 they get randomly tested anytime of the year.
In theory, this would be a great thing, but I know it'll never happen. All the boxing associations get paid off there belts. Promoters make too much money off of over hyped fighters (ex: JCC Jr.). Networks make too much money off of fighters too (ex: Andre Berto= HBO, Tim Bradley= Showtime, They talked about fighting and it never went further than that).
The money intrest of the business men who run boxing are destroying it. I think a leage would be a great idea, but what ya'll think?

Duane- You mention a lot of valid points, but one group that you omitted from blame were the Promoters and Managers. Promoters who seldom want to work on making the best match possible but instead the worst one they can get by with selling, and Managers who are often more at the heart of cherrypicking than the fighter themselves (you probably could argue that that's there job, the highest reward for the lowest risk) but I see a lot of lucrative fights passed over and that's not neccessarly a good thing. A league would be a fine idea, but as you yourself point out, it's never going to happen

you know, I actually came up with a way it COULD work...even get support FROM the sanctionng bodies! But...it still would never work...just like Health care in the US!

It's kind of a interesting parallel, both Health Care and Boxing are struggling in the USA, but among industrialized nations both are in pretty good shape. Health Care for the most part other than the impoverished third world is a goverment entitity and a small portion of ones budget, and Boxing is thriving like never before.

True....but the reason they are working outside the US is because the US is too GREEDY....for BOTH! Absolutely, and a lot of that comes from our being too litigious a society. Too many Lawyers fueling and profiting from said Greed.

I think we could get a good national health plan, but in order to do it, and do it right, it will take YEARS to convert. The BS that our so called leaders try to make us beleive is that it can be done in 4 or 8 years....its more like 24! You can't flip a switch and make it better. SURE we WANT to be able to, but things just don't work that way when you are dealing with millions of people!

Come on even you would pay high dollar to see Floyd beat the shit out of Obama or Osama LOL
I did hear Obama say that he his "hope" is that Manny can "change" his drug addicted ways so a simple drug test would quit holding up the fight everyone wants to see.

Williams has proven to be every very beatable, he has proven that his chin is very dentable. The only people ducking Paul Williams are the names his PR guys are not mentioning because they don't exist. Because a guy moves around more then 1 division and is not granted a title shot ASAP does not mean he is being ducked. You have a better case with Martinez a guy who even if he loses makes his opp look bad and hurts them marketability wise
