One night after we saw the 9-1 Shumenov defend his WBA Title on ESPN, here comes a WBO title fight featuring two guys with just 14 wins. I know Mini-Fly is NOT a crowded division, but we're seeing so much more of this, World Champions with less than 20 Fights. I know nothing about these two fighters other than the records, and as we know the records can sometimes be decieving, but it does seem to be a disturbing trend in the Sport. Am I being to picky here? It just seems like having the Four Different paths to major belts has allowed some to take the "fast track" to a title to a ridiculous degree. When we see several "Champions" whose Resume is still numbering in the Teens, it becomes hard to take seriously..

It has almost become as bad as the women's divisions! Agreed. I'm actually more in awe of those that follow the women's game than I am the men, simply because it requires so much more work. You have to eyeball the record and REALLY know your stuff to be able to pick out the quality wins and seperate them from the junk.

The problem is mainly Television with the upsurge in so many World Titles,if they televise a bout it seems its got to be a title match of some sort. They come up with so much crap like the intercontinental title, intrim title, final eliminator which the winner rarely gets a title shot anyway.Take the case of Floyd Mayweather,if he will not defend his title against the number one contender, then take the title off of him.To many Champions nowdays duck the real contenders and take on easy defences,,then still have the ghoal to call themselves World Champions.Boxing has suffered over the years due to the different controlling bodies, with each having there own World Champs.Thats why boxing is in decline as most people get turned off by,Poor judging,Easy defences,to many World Champions, ect.

I think when you back track it, the promoter is the one MOST at fault. If they didn't put value into the belt, the networks wouldn't either. We can argue that ALL involved, networks, sanctioning bodies, fighters, managers, promoters, etc are at fault and the truth is they ALL are to blame, but I think if the promoter actually promoted, then the fan would not have to associate a quality fighter is one who has "a belt". I say, lets blame the promoter!

The networks didn't mind at all putting up the dough for good fights sans title, and it was because the Promoter did his Job and we knew the guys names, without the need for some trinket to provide artificial importance.
