Very very very solid PPV card this weekend ... gotta give credit to GBP for putting it together ...
Linares vs. Juarez should be all action and Guerrero vs. Casamayor is an interesting matchup
too bad the Bika vs. Mendy fight isn't going to be shown

What a concept...putting together a card that is actually competetive! I think GB may have something here! LOL....has boxing become that low that we all jump for joy when we are about to fork over $50 for a card that happens to be a good one because we are so used to being screwed? We have become the cattle being led to the slaugter........it IS a great card and I do HOPE we can get more, but I just find it funny that they actually are selling it as a quaility card....when the truth is, if we have gotten these cards all along, boxing wouldn't be in trouble. Bittersweet.

Bittersweet. Agreed, BC, this type of balanced card didn't used to stand out, it was just standard procedure. Say what you want about Don King, but when he was still putting on PPV's, he NEVER had some of the shlock that has passed for a PPV Undercard the last few years.

King STILL is King! I was at his last fight....Alexander-Urango and the whole card, top to bottom was good......AND he still actually promotes! I think GB will be in trouble in a few years. They are not building for the future. They need more young talent. I could see some type of merger with them and TKO, which could save them both!

King's St. Louis Card here in a couple of weeks is a damn good one also ... I was almost going to go to it but since we are going to Indy this weekend we decided to pass on back to back weekend road trips

Yeah, it doesn't seem like they have the eye for young talent that a lot of us simply assumed they were going to have. A few years back I thought it was going to be a natural progression for them to just go from the old guys themselves (DLH,BHOP,Mosley, etc.) to the next generation of Stars, but some of the talent choices they've invested in have REALLY made one wonder.

That's because they really think the old guys are still good. Besides B-Hop...who wants to see B-Hop?

5 fights on one card with 4 stars or more on boxrec's fight rating thing, that IS rare! Hopefully I'll be able to catch some of these fights on YouTube int he following days. Looking forward to seeing Daniel Jacobs. Seen him a couple of times and he looks like one to watch out for.

Also I see Englands George Groves is on the card. He's one to watch from our shores. He stopped Charles Adamu in 6 last time out to claim the Commonwealth Super middleweight title on the Haye-Ruiz undercard. I was at that one and he seems to be getting a decent fanbase going. Will be interesting to see how his career pans out with Hayemaker/Goldenboy and how James Degale our Olympic gold medalist progresses with Frank Warren.

I really don't think it is a fair assessment that GBP doesn't have young talent www.goldenboypromotions.com/fighters/fighters_index.htmI see a ton of young talent that is signed with GBP ... I think it is a misperception because the only mainstream boxing news you hear is about old guys ... so when they sign a Winky Wright or a Nate Campbell that is what you hear about. You don't hear about Jorge Linares, Saul Alvarez, and Abner Mares ... Not to mention I think they caught a couple of bad breaks with their young guys ... first Linares gets scorched a week after signing and Ortiz suffers the lost to Maidana. I see a lot of good young fighters in their stable though. I think it is very comparable to the young fighters Top Rank has.

Well, it does seem they've had a few young guys lose, in fact even though I can't remember their names now, but there were a couple guys they actually dumped after their first loss. Richardson's Son Rock Allen is a guy who seems to be going nowhere real fast, talented Am but a blip on the Radar Screen for quite some time now, Escalante's fought guys that should use diving boards, and I certainly don't see anything special with McEwan, Jamie Kavanaugh, and a few others. Rios I'm not sure about anymore, he looked less than spectacular the other night, we will see. Frankie Gomez appears to be the goods, and Lara has been the best of the Cuban Ams thusfar (IMO). Saul Alvarez and Linares, I will give you as sure bets to become stars.
Perhaps I should correct my statement to their not having navigated a young guy to Superstar Status, but it's a young Company and by comparison Top Ranks been around for nearly 40 years. Good post, Mike.

Not enough to carry them in three years! For them to keep up where they are today, they would need 30 or 40 good young prospects right now and I bet they have less than 15. I am sure they will get more, but all I am saying is that if you had a stable full of younger guys now, in 3 years, they would ALL be at the "money making level" win, lose or draw.

but I don't see 15 young stars in the Top Rank stable either ... maybe there just aren't that many young stars LOL

The card was better on paper than it was in person ... Linares totally outclassed Juarez but I agree with Ledderman that his style will not sell tickets. Casamayor looked like a fighter who's paycheck was going to the IRS and as much as I like Guerrero, he will not be a champ at 140.
It was only a matter of when Pirog caught Jacobs as it looked like Jacobs was totally unprepared for his style ... class points to Jacobs for talking to Lamps after the fight.
Diaz did better than I expected and I think he can still beat most LW's but JMM just proved what a HOF fighter he is. Too bad Manny will never fight him again ... too many things in the way
1) JMM is at his best 135 and lower and I don't think Manny could make 135 without quitting his "supplement" regimen
2) Arum doesn't promote JMM and Arum has proven that Manny will not fight anyone not signed by Arum

Mike- I agree that it was classy for Jacobs to talk to Lampley after the fight, and I have some sympathy for the kid fighting with a heavy heart due to the passing of his Grandmother, but I really have to fault HBO for not at least explaining to me just WHY I wasn't getting anything from Pirog after his big win.
I mean, if it's a case that they didn't have a Translator or something, that's perfectly fine, but you need to TELL ME why I'm talking in-depth with the loser and the winner goes walking away without so much as a word with him. Otherwise, it simply appears that they're handing over Air Time to the losing Golden Boy Prospect in an attempt to put a good face on things.
