I see Jacobs lost, how did the fight go. He's looked excellent when I've seen him before albeit against some stiffs. Did he get caught off guard, personal problems etc? I see this Pirog is also undefeated, is it a case of Jacobs met his match and this guy hits harder?

Jacobs tried to box with him and I did give him the first round, but Pirog was able to get his righthand home and hurt Jacobs starting in the second round, and more impressively (to me) was that he was patient and displayed solid defense/skills in addition to the power. The KO might be the Punch of the Year. Jacobs said later on, and I think was very classy in doing so, that the personal problems were not to blame. I think he just ran into a better fighter.

I think Jacobs was just completely unprepared for the style ... it almost seemed as if his trainers thought he was facing a classic Euro style fighter which Pirog was definitely not.
I like Jacobs and I do think he will bounce back strong but Pirog was a beast.
Good point on the interview with no talking to Pirog Murph ... now in hindsight you heard Lamps telling him to look how Linares (the other GBP fighter) bounced back from his loss I think he even managed to mention Khan and Ortiz too.

Yeah, the lack of Pirog nterview was just bizzare. Most of all that they didn't even aknowledge that they weren't talking to Pirog or give us an explaination as to why. I mean, if it was for lack of an interpretor, then they need to TELL us that. Wilcox and I were texting each other immediately about it (Dave watched in a theatre) and Billy C. said on yesterdays show that he and another guy in the Chat Room caught it right away as well.
Because they gave me no other explaination, I'm forced to conclude that the only reason we talked to Jacobs was because he was with Golden Boy and Pirog is not. Lampleys reference to other GBP fighters that have recently rebounded, kind of plays into those suspicions.

There WAS a interpretor there....he was around in between rounds! I think it was a clear fact that Jacobs was HBO's guy and Pirog was not. HBO has slipped big time and as much as they have helped the sport over the last 20 years, they are kind of hurting it now. Think about a fan that has JUST begun watching boxing in the past ten years....what do we have there? If they listen to HBO and ESPN and watch all the BS that goes on, how long will we keep them as fans before they move on? Old guys like me can at least remember the 70's and 80's when boxing was doing well!

Having solid cards from top to bottom should be expected and not just for PPV. There is no way marquez-Diaz should have been PPV. If it had been 30 bucks it would be like a fondling you didn't want but 50 bucks is flat out rape!

So you are probably someone who bout the Pac-Clottey fight ... with a crappy ass Arum card yet you condemn a really good card. Saturday's card was worth the $$ as far as PPV's go but any Arum card is a joke.

Actually I did not pay for the clottey fight. This last PPV fight was a great card but it annoys me when the promoter pats themselves on the back. I don't like paying for any PPV fight unless it's a megafight. JMM and Diaz is not the matchup that shakes the boxing world. Yea it's a great fight and great card but don't soak us for 50 bucks. How is boxing going to increase the fan base beyond the enthusiasts if all these fights are 50 bucks?

PPV is the way of boxing right now ... is it right? NO ... but if they put together a card like Saturday night then at least on paper they are trying .... Saturday night was better than any card Arum has put together ever .... if you are going to pay $50 for a card then it is better to get a card like we had Saturday night then one Megastar mismatch and a bunch of crappy fights. Sorry but I didn't see ODLH pat himself on the back once for the card Saturday night ....
What I saw last week was Arum patting himself on the back for once again avoiding Mayweather and putting Pacquiao in a fight that is a mismatch and a joke.

So this Pirog kid is one to watch out for then! Since they didn't mention him after the fight I guess there was no mention of him getting title shots etc?

Well that fight was for Sergio Martinez's WBO title which was also stripped from him ... good thing Sergio is the Ring MW champ ... at least they can't strip him of that and really who cares about any other title.

Hey Hanson...did Bob Arum everhy beat the shit out of you or steal your lunch money or something along those lines? You are way off about Manny, but there is no use talking to you about that, but you are even further off about Arum. Is Arum a crook? YES. Does he tell tall tales? YES. Would I trust him? HELL NO. Do I like him? NO. Does he put on good shows? Do you know what, for the most part he does. AND he does it often! Think about how many shows Top Rank puts on. Forget about PPV, all his Mexican fights, etc...just think of how many Top Rank provides us with. Now....think if he didn't. He may be a jerk, but he is one of the all time BEST promotors ever....right next to his best buddy Don King. There is no escaping it. I will tell you another thing...GBP won't last the way they are going....you watch!
I can't argue that Arum is a nice guy and I agree with you...I would never trust him, but the guy gives us a lot of boxing events.

Me and you and MOST others agree JW, but MH is a Pac hater....there is no reasoning with him. He hates Pac as much as I hate Fayweather, so if I were you....I would not waste my time trying to talk sense in him about Pac-Fayweather. ANYTHING else...he is OK!

by not even negotiating with him ... Arum negotiated the fight with Ross Greenburg of HBO and last I checked he didn't have anything to do with Mayweather.
Greenburg says both sides were in on the negotiations but it was Schaeffer or Ellerbe so who exactly was he talking to from Mayweather's side? Jeff Mayweather (you know the good one) said the last time anyone from Mayweather's camp talked to Arum was in May and the conversation ended when Arum still said no to the drug testing.
It's not avoiding Floyd as much as avoiding anyone not signed with Arum. Arum puts on good small PPV's ... anytime he has a superstar in the main event he puts nothing on the undercard ... unless of course you think John Duddy is a good undercard.
Sorry guys anyone who thinks that anyone other than Arum is to blame for Pac/Mayweather not happening is just delusional.
