Seriously how many bad decisions can one guy get in a career ... I had him up 9-3 against Jackewicz and 8-4 Friday night (even watched with the sound off) ...
Plus if I remember correctly I thought he won the second fight with Hlatshwayo (but lost the first one)

Mike- Not to bust your balls, but I don't think you had it 8-4 Friday Night, it was only a 10 rounder Actually, he was lucky it was just a 10 and not a 12, as Theopane about had him out of there in the 8th, and Delvin kind of inched across the finish line. The Theopane Rounds were clearer, but I had Delvin taking enough close ones early to still have him up 1 pt at the end. He's a ESPN-Lifer (and there's nothing wrong with that, it just means he shouldn't have been in the Top Ten in the World to begin with, IMO) and so in that sense, I really don't think much harm was actually done. I look forward to more Delvin fights on ESPN, which should be his permanent home from now on. As for close decisions, I thought he was fortunate to get a draw in the first Hlatshwayo fight (although I agree he deserved the second one) and even with his late knockdown against Shamone Alvarez, I thought Alvarez edged him as Delvin started too late. It's not been a total one way street.

I think Theophane had the HARDER shots and the way Delvin was staggering around, I would think the judges thought he was getting hurt, and thus leaning towards Ashley in the close rounds. I will tell you this....Theophane has been robbed as many times as Delvin! Delvin also gets hit way too much. I like him....but he is over-rated.

Exactly, I like him and he makes for great ESPN action, but there's several Welterweights that would be painful to watch beating on Delvin. I don't know that I'd even want to see him in with Mike Jones, much less the established guys.

Yeah I wasn't making the case for him being a world beater or anything ... just seems like he ends up on the wrong end of close decisions a lot ... the Jackiewicz was the worst by far.

He doesn't do enough to win....even though he does...its only by a little, which is why he seems to lose a lot of close ones. He needs to be more aggressive and I think that is where the problem is...he is not! AND he gets hit way too much. A good ESPN fighter, but the buck stops there.

I agree, a lot of rounds that he wins narrowly(on my card), he still leaves in doubt and doesn't put an exclaimation point on them by being more aggressive. As you mentioned earlier, because he gets hit and appears hurt, then he leaves the door open for the opponent winning a round despite his punch total being comparitively low.

Exactly. That AND the fact he has always faded as the fight goes on....the end result is a guy that may just not be a World Champion class of a fighter.

no he definitely isn't ... I agree with all of your points ... is there really anyone though who thinks he lost the Jackiewicz fight? I heard even Mrs. Jackiewicz scored it for Delvin =)

I had a MW once who was a GREAT gym fighter....would beat the hell out of anyone you put in front of him....in the gym. When he got to the ring on fight night....he turned into the same kind of fighter as Delvin....his opp would hit him once, he fired back once. His opp hit him three times, he fired back three shots. At the end of the fight....he always lost close decisions or got a draw. EVERY time he said, "I was robbed". After a while, you don't get the nod, EVEN if you win like Devlin did in several close ones....when you travel into someone else's house, when they throw four, you HAVE To throw 8.....

Billy- Excellent example on the "Gym Fighter" types. They have a routine, and even though what he was doing was right if you go by the "book" (fire three to answer three), you've got to do MORE than what's required to ensure things. The Bottom Line is you leave it in doubt and you have yourself to blame, especially on the road.

AND his stumbling around didn't help him! Agreed, if he just takes Ashley's roundhouse shots without appearing to be hurt, then he wins a UD without much question.
