I understand the HW division is weak but the fact Vitali is fighting Briggs or even givinbg Briggs a shot at the title is just embaressing....I mean it is almost a joke....
Briggs averages about 8-10 punches per round with a 4% connect rate (Though not mathmatically possible)...His biggest win since being beaten one sidedly by Ibragimov is over a 41yr old washed up Rob Calloway...This is a worthy title challenger how?.....I mean I don't care how you butter it or sugar coat it this can not be pushed off as legit.....

I agee with you man! What about Chagev...or even Adamek after he beats Grant, or even Chambers....shit...I would rather (and I am hating what I am about to type!) see Hoyfield than Briggs! Why not beatup Valuev? ANYONE but Briggs man!

Despite Valuev being a useless lumbering lump, it would be pretty interesting to see him in with Vitali and to see if the giant can be stopped. It made so much sense for Valuev to be paid step aside money for Ruiz to fight Haye and then to get a title shot and another big payday vs Vitali now?

I wonder if anyone mentioned is even willing to fight Vitali ... we know Haye isn't willing too ... Ruslan may have had enough of a beating from one Klitschko that he isn't in the mood for another. Adamek has said he needs more time at HW, Valuev priced himself out of the fight, has Chambers woken up yet from when Wlad put him to sleep.
Briggs sucks as an opponent but who else is there? Povetkin wants not part of them ... I suppose they could get a dollie and wheel Solis up the aisle and have five guys push him up over the ropes.
Haye is arguably the 3rd best HW right now and he is scared shitless of the brothers so if #3 won't fight them ....

I know it stinks to be seeing the Sosnowskis or Shannon Briggs being in title fights, but Mike is right that other avenues were explored. It's either guys who seem unwilling to fight them at this time (Adamek, Valuev due to his $$$ demand that King came up with, Chagaev, or including David Haye) or guys who don't really deserve a shot.
I know we all want to roll our eyes at Briggs getting a shot, but it's a simple case of where they sent out open invitations and nobody seems to want to RSVP.

I love how "boxing fans" love to bitch and moan about guys fighting once a year but then complain when they fight stay busy fights.
So if no one in the top 10 is willing to fight him then he should just not fight? Wow.

I give Vitali credit in that he fought pretty good challenges in Sam Peter, JC Gomez, Arreola, and Kingpin Johnson after all that time off.......but 2010, with just the Sosnowski fight and this one, is going to go down in history as low quality and ALSO not that Active either.
When you get down to this level of the barrell, it becomes a fine line between fighting to stay active and obviously taking an easy payday. If he's going to draw 50K or whatever it is, for a fight like this, it become hard NOT to think of it as the latter. When he couldn't get a better opponent, this Launch should've been scrubbed.

HW Champ - Wlad - Vitali will never fight
2 - Haye - has bitched out a fight with both Klitschko's
3. Povetkin - publicly said he wasn't ready for them
4. Adamek - has said he needs another fight or two
5. Chagaev - would probably fight Vitali but since Wlad beat him easily I would assume that the Chagaev camp doesn't want this fight otherwise it would probably get done
6. Chambers - probably has no desire to fight another Klitschko - has he even woken up yet?
7. Boytsov - pretty sure I read an article about bringing him along slow
8. Valuev - priced himself out of a fight with Vitali
9. Dimitrenko - no idea but my guess is "boxing fans" would make fun of this opponent also
10. Arreola - already lost to Vitali
Briggs is a crappy opponent no doubt but I have a feeling he was willing to fight for the price K2 was willing to pay for a crappy opponent where others may not have been.
Seems pretty clear this is just a stay busy fight but then again I am an idiot and not a "boxing fan and know it all" ....
funny how you start another thread praising Sultan Ibragimov when it was a win over Shannon Briggs that won him a "title" and got him a Klitschko payday which he never recovered from.
