Call me old fashioned but i prefered the days when boxers made their way to the ring in Championship bouts to a fanfare. Now some of the antics they dream up is getting a bit over the top, like Prince Naseem floating down to ringside on a magic carpet. When i went to the Valuev v Haye fight in Germany, before Valuev made his entrance a pop band sang there latest hit live. Some of the ring entrances are taking longer than the fights themself, which makes the whole thing a bit rediculous.Coming into music i dont have a problem with,as i use to like Chris Eubanks music Simply The Best. The crowd would sing along and dance thats when my body popping came in usefull {just joking]. In days gone by the two boxers would shake hands before the contest and shake hands after the contest. Now we have all this gestering, eye balling which should be stopped by the referee as at the end of the day this is a sport.I doubt very much anything would be done as the youngsters seem to like this macho bullshit. It appears the more this pro wrestling goes more outrageous in there antics,it seems boxing is trying to catch up with it.I prefer the old ways as boxing is a serious businness and should be treated like it in my opinion.

I think the walks help draw fans that maybe at one time would not be so interested in the big theatrics....I like you am happy with something simple....Maybe just some music coming in....But like you said about youngsters...It hypes up the younger fans....Hamed IMO is the one who perfected the elaborate entrances.....It was limited to the UK mainly and Canada other then that then we started to follow it here....I mean remember Arce coming in on his dancing horse.....It is serious as you say but it is also a business and they must please the crowds I suppose

If i remember correctly Kevin Kelly got tired of Naseem ring walk which was taking ages, and went back to his dressing room.Your right Daxx this sort of thing draws the younger fans to some of the big shows.I suppose the promoters dont mind as it drags the show out,and if he has a few short bouts occur its a godsend.

It will get worse with the popularity of MMA, because their ring walk is usually longer than the fight. I remember one of the ones I watched (probably because Gina Carano was on it) this dude was dancing down the aisle with a couple of whores on his arm with shades on and I am thinking this guy must be good with this type of entrance and then they put up his record and he was 10-7.
I will say Ring Walks don't bother me too much because I tape most fights and watch them the next day so I can always FF through them. Being a huge fan of the band Korn I was always partial to Kelly Pavlik's ring walk.

Trouble MH is if you pay good money to go to see the show live,it tends to bore me i just want to see boxing. When i watch on TV i also fast forward, and most times i put it on mute.We got guys overhere with dark glasses, screaming masks, and the funniest shorts down to the ankles. They try to get a image, but most of them are crap fighters anyway.

True ... over there do they have those type of ring walks for the non-main events? The few cards I have found to go to around here haven't been that big of fights so not much other than music in the way of ring walks.
I think one of the Klitschko's fights had the Scorpions playing a full song live while Klitschko stood at the top of a platform ...

Yeah if there are some short bouts it is a great way to have fans forget the shitty undercard bouts for sure....Naz had some great entrances planned out but they had the habit of not working out so well....I remember one fight where he came in on a giant ring type thing and was sitting on it...It tok so long to hook up the safety harness and Naz still looked scared to death he would fall ..... I don't remember Kelly going back to the dressing room but I do remember him about to have a fit it was taking so long

I absolutely diespise the guys who enter the ring with a live rap song guy singing.....one that come to mind is Cory Spinks
I always hated guys like Camacho and Naeem Hamed for thier idiotic theatrics.
I prefer the no nonsense, Tyson, Hagler and Hearns approach

I remember Phil Borgia, good guy trainer of Kevin, took the mitts up to the Ring with him with the idea that if it took too long, then Kevin would simply stay warm by working them. I think that would've have been the ULTRA Cool approach and when Hamed saw it, would've left HIM unnerved a bit, Showboats HATE to be ignored. Alas, a few mins in, Kevin was up on the ropes yelling for Hamed to get to the Ring, he'd fallen victim to the trap. It got carried away with Hamed-McCullough when Hamed was punching fake Halloween props, even I thought that was way too much. I saw a Ringwalk this past weekend on a Broadway Boxing replay that was pretty funny. It was Klitshcko-Sosnowski from a couple months ago, and the Video they made for Sosnowski, nicknamed The Dragon, was this commical thing where he's shooting Fire out of his Mouth. Totally Laughable. I know it's unneccesary with regard to the fight, and sometimes stretchs on WAY too long (I thought the Scorpions were going to do a Full Set when they kept on playing during that one K2 Walk that Mike mentioned lol) but really, what are we talking here, five mintues out of your life? PLUS, I think it plays better to actually be AT the Arena too. I never liked Corey Spinks dancing, but when I attended the Karmazin fight, it was hard not to get caught up in it. It changed my mind totally, it really charged up the crowd.

Agreed Dave.Daxx i am sure Kelly left the ring but i may be wrong. The naseem was on a magic carpet it went over me as i was sat right below, just bloody silly in my opinion. That night the fight of the night was Micky Ward v Sean Neary, with Ward winning great fight.

Kevin jumped on the Ropes and yelled at Hamed to get down there, but didn't leave the Ring, DA. I checked it again just now to make sure my longterm memory wasn't at fault I think it was the Barerra fight where he came into the Ring on a Giant Golden Ring/Swing and on the way in over the Crowd, somebody let him have it with what must have been about a Ten Dollar Beer that must have only had about two sips taken out of it. Funny as Hell, when he gets off the Swing, Hamed is wanting the Security to grab the fan that threw it. I think it's on YouTube, and I will look for it now.

I don't doubt you I am just saying i don't remember him leaving....I do remember the carpet ride though but just not the leaving part....Like most though I was pretty much like WTF is all thins and probably got up for a bit until the fight started...You were actually there for it?...Very cool... Here is a botched elaborate entrance...Anyone remember the Vargas fight where he had the mock brick wall that he punched through and it did not collapse all the way the first time and the blocks were so darn big he had to step over them more as a hinder then anything....It got to the point where even the expression on his face was like "Why the hell did I do this"....I want to say it was the Mayorga fight but I am probably wrong
