i just don't get why chagaev would be a 7-1 fav against meehan. i know meehan is old, but chagaev is coming off a terrible performance. if ruslan still has his old skills, he should win, but with those odds, my money is on kali.
really looking forward to the other fights. i'm still thinking about the fights in LA, but i think kim will beat diaz pretty good on ESPN. he may get rocked early like he did in his last fight, so hopefully it will be as exciting. he may not be an all time great, but i'll watch him fight any time.

7-1 is too low. Meehan is a stiff and has no chance against Ruslan Calogero.
Meehan sucked when he was good

Blakely- You called it on the Kim fight, it only lasted a round but he did get rocked, and some Defense is going to HAVE to be taught like Teddy mentioned. But then I've been watching Boxing for over 40 years and the next time a Korean blocks a punch with something over than his face will be the first time. Sorry to see Augustus go out like that, he just didn't have the legs to do what he used to do anymore, but he hung in there and landed some good shots, did the best he could, and Ruslan P. should learn from it. Everybody loved the spirit of the two young guys fighting their pro debut four rounder, which was kind of like a human version of Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. They were really sloppy but you had to love the heart and effort. It was one of the better ESPN cards based simply on action alone.

Meehan sucked when he was good I thought Marty made a good point on Fridays Show, if you think Don King has lost his pull, your wrong..........if he can still get Meehan, who's done NOTHING lately (he's been off for nearly two years now) an eliminator fight, then it shows that while he might not have the stable he once did, he can still pull some strings.

well, i'm taking the pressure fighters over the boxers tonight...vazquez and perez.
abner mares looks like he could outbox johnny all day long. but can he? he's just never faced anyone like perez before. we know perez can be down on the cards and still wear you out and stop you, like he did against silence m. i mean after losing the whole fight, he actually hurt him with a jab! mares is way faster than perez, but 12 rounds of hard pressure could change that.
i never had much faith in vazquez, and when he quit against marquez in the first fight, i pretty much wrote him off. then i picked marquez to win 2 and 3 and israel shocked me. he can seriously punch, and rafael doesn't have a great chin. i think one punch can change everything in this fight. the question is whether vazquez is too far past his prime to land that punch. i think he can still do it.

Blakely- In the not too distant future and given more experience, I think Abner Mares defeats Perez. He might even be able to do it tonight, but either way I think that day is coming. I think Perez's people are wise to take the fight now, before Mares can get ahead of the learning curve.

looks like you're right dave. mares is gonna get better with experience. i'm not sure how perez would win a rematch.
i was wrong about vazquez. as lennox lewis said after beating vitali klitschko, "just look at the state of the man's face!"

Blakely- Yeah, I think they made a wise choice in fighting him now, Mares is going to advance farther given time. As for Vazquez? Like you, I was well aware of the past damage, I thought it would hold up a LOT better than that. It was like his eyebrows were loaded with one of those blood capsules packages they put on stunt men when they are shot in the movies.
