Hey Bill.....I know we talked about this in email a week or so ago, but as a relatively new (ahem) premium subscriber, I would LOVE to hear you and Bert Sugar talk some boxing. I know you said he's hell on returning calls, but PLEASE keep trying. I think it would make for some absolutely riveting listening.....

Yes it would be fun to hear BillyC say on radio Bert shut the fu%$ up,the guy is in my opinion a joke. When he compares at the Hall of Fame he thinks he is more inportant than the boxers, and uses the same old lines every year. Many years ago Bert brought out a magazine on boxing,i sent him a years subsciption and the magazine was liquidated after a few issue.I never recieved one copy and i never got my subsciption back,so i just dont like the man. One year at the Hall of Fame i was talking to one of the cleaners at the hotel the boxers all stop at in Canastota. She said most of the boxers a real gents but Bert Sugar is a arsehole,he thinks tipping went out with the Dodo [Extinct Bird] But Macman if he is your cup of tea you are welcome to him,at least i can fast forward the program if he ever comes on.

The problem with Bert Dallen is he drinks WAYYYY to much now...I mean tis years HOF weekend he did not even change is clothes in 3 DAYS!!!! I have the pictures to prove it....I got into about 4 arguements with him about the same thing because he kept forgetting we already debated the same thing earlier....I love the guy he is part of boxings history and part of the sports whole media image from the last couple decades but the drink has gotten to his mind....Catch him at the right moment he is great catch him at the wrong moment he is a nightnare to deal with

I hate to get on the new guy Mac for posting it, but I'm with DAllen and I've seen Bert work closehand. I don't like him at HOF because he's the only one laughing at most of his jokes, and he really DOES have a drinking problem. But he's ALWAYS been Cheap. I recall when he ran the ridiculously overpriced Bert Sugar's Fightgame Magazine in the late 90's (which I am sure is the one DAllen is refering to in his note), he used to use the Editoral Page to defend himself against charges he was Cheap and owed money to everybody, usually his responses would center around Herb Goldman, who ran Ring Magazine at the time. The magazine, like everything else in Bert's Life ended up in debt and crediters empty, but I understand Bert came out of it well.
I recall about four years ago or so, one of the funniest moments I can recall was when Marie, who bascially runs Grazianos, gave him a Bill for the Weekend, not a Bar Bill but the actual Bill for the Hotel stay. I guess unlike the Boxers that stay there, Burts stay is NOT reimbursed by the HOF, and they (Grazis) take a loss on the Room each weekend. The reason is because he chooses to stay at Grazianos because it's stumbling distance from the Bar instead of down the street at the Days Inn.
Bert took the bill to Tony Graziano, who took care of it, much to Marie's chagrin, saying that it's good for the HOF (and Grazis) to have Bert Sugar. Personally, I think it's only good for Bert. He's okay to listen to when he's sober and not making corney jokes, but that's about 4% of the day as far as I can tell.

Wow. I didn't expect to open such a can of worms on this. I don't know much back story about Bert, but all the things you guys said about him, if true, makes me want to hear him go toe-to-toe with bill even more. Those kind of characters - a dying breed - often, to me anyway, make for extremely interesting interviews. And I don't think his knowledge of the sport can be called into question. Billy - you gonna weigh in on this...?

LOL...the funny thing IS....I will be the first to admit that I too had WAY too much to drink one night this year at the IBHOF and at around 2 am....I grabbed Bert as he was leaving Grazianos and said, Yo Bert....when are you coming on my show....he says, when are you going to call, I said I called and left a message....and he looked at me like a deer in headlights and said as sincere as he could, Billy, I really didn't get it...call me again and I will come on. Then I FELT LIKE THE DRUNK and have been a little....David Haye-ish....... I will call him. Despite being a jerk....for a short 10 min interview, he should be good.
