I really think this is the most over rated fighter in the last 10 years minimum,,,The claimns that no one will fight him, The fact that when he does fight especially if Max Kellerman is announcing all you hear is how he is avoided but who has he fought to actually make guys not want to fight him?
An Old Winky who had been out for a spell? Verno Phillips who I respect greatly but age has caught him even long before the Williams fight, Matthysse? In the Margarito fight he was starting to be on the losing end when the fight ended and it was more of Margarito not getting off early enough rather then Williams beating him up....His most devestating moment as a fighter was the 1st rd KO of Quintana who was cold as ice when the fight started laughing like a school girl on his way to the ring...The first Quintana fight gave a blue print how to beat Williams...Williams was given a gift in the Martinez fight or maybe I am the only one who thinks so?
He is tall for the WW division in the MW division 6'1" 6'2" fighters have become common...His power is so so....even as a WW....His punch output is his biggest advantage but he can be put on the defensive rat5her easily..
I don't understand what the hoopla about this guy is or ever was...IMO he is just an overrated fighter who had some phenom as a 6'+ WW and now it is not a factor for the most part.
And I remember when his people called him a modern day Tommy Hearns!!!!
Maybe someone else can explain what this guy has that is supposed to be so special and why he is supposed to be the most feared fighter in boxing

I actually like him and think he makes for interesting fights, but like so many of the guys that HBO has hyped, it's now gone full circle and "the guy that nobody will fight" has become a bit overrated. He gives up his height too easily and the HW-like reach isn't the advantage that it really SHOULD be, but he makes for exciting fights and isn't afraid to mix it up. I like the high punch output, and just like Hearns' faults made him even MORE interesting for me to watch, I certainly prefer to see Williams in close fights than the safety first we see from some of his contemporaires.

I don't dis ;like the guy as a fighter but the whole Avoided fighter thing just gets me....HBO is not the only one who says it, he says it, his camp says it and maybe after the Margartio fight people were looking to steer clear of him but after the first Quintana fight that all went away.....Yet they still keep it going....

Yeah, they need to change their tune. The only guy I see still openly avoiding Williams is Floyd, and he's kind of avoiding everybody. It kind of reminds me (to a lesser extent though) of how Winky Wright used to like to wear the Label for YEARS, and with good reason, but then kept saying the same lines while turning down opportunities others would kill for.

Great comparison...Though like stated I think for Winky it actually was true for a while...Also for Margarito for a while i think it fit the bill...

I give Williams much credit as a very good fighter. His skill set and physical attributes make for a tough night for anyone. He was in deep against Martinez for sure, but whether or not a guy thinks he won or lost the fight, I choose to give him credit for showing the grit that many dont think he has.
I still think the final chapter is yet to be written on Williams, but I think he is one of the best in the game at this point.
He seems to get alot of backlash and I do understand that his "everyone is avoiding me" line is annoying, but the reality is that most are. Nobody is afraid neccesarily, but he is a "too much risk, for too little reward" guy for the big shots like Pacquiao and Mayweather imo
It took another avoided guy with heart (Martinez) to take a Williams fight. The outcome of that in my eyes is that it moved both guys stock up. I know Im in the minority as far as Williams goes, but I think he showed alot in that tough fight. You cant win every round of every fight and look spectacular everytime out.
All I know is that if Williams is fighting, Im watching

I likes Williams more until he tookm the year off after winning the WBO ww title then bragging for 12 months then getting it taken from him by Quintana on mostly arrogance going in.....I think the team around Williams is more of a hinder then a help in his career...

I actually think that in the tough fights against Margarito and Martinez, we saw exactly what we DIDN'T see from Chad Dawson. In otherwords, a guy more concerned with winning than simply his own appearance. No, he didn't look good in either fight, but when the fight was on the line, he FOUGHT it. Over time that pays off and is why PW is more highly thought of at the moment......and should be.

Yeah I am very very disappointed with Dawson and that is a very good comparison on how each handled the situation.....I just like I stated can not stand the whole most avoided fighter thing....I really think it started to get to me when there was a comparison made between him and Tommy Hearns and his trainer stating that "Paul Willims will make everyone forget about Thomas Hearns when it comes to thoughts of the biggest hardest hitting WW ever mark my words!!"..Then he lost to Quintana.....I admit it is a personal hinder that I keep as a grudge.....Can't help it I grew up as a HUGE Tommy Hearns fan....Hell I hated SRL as a kid for knocking Tommy out while everyone else was drinking 7up because of ray

I don't know why some of these Trainers talk the nonsense they do, that USED to be the Managers Job to Hype Up their Young Fighters. To me, any Trainer that says nonsense like that, about how Paul Williams is going to make people forget how hard Tommy Hearns hit at Welterweight, that just tells me they probably are lying or just haven't been around very long. I remember a day when a Trainer WOULD NEVER say anything like that, they'd never want their fighter getting a swelled head listening to them spew nonsense.
