As much as I can't stand Bob, no one deserves to out-live their children. My condolences to the entire Arum family.

Yeah, yesterday morning when I heard they'd found his Pack, and IT appeared to have to suffered from a Fall, then knowing that no experienced climber (which he was) would be seperated from it, I accepted that we were simply looking for a Body RIP John, and condolences to the entire Arum Family.

Sad thing to lose a child even if grown, I hope the family recovers quickly (as if you ever fully do from this sort of thing)..My best to the Arums

It is the worst thing....being a parent and having to bury your kid, no matter who you are, or how old you are. Very sad for Bob and his family.

agree 100% with what everyone says ... I wouldn't wish losing a child on my worst enemy ... it is easily the worst thing I have ever been through.

I had a girl who could have been the one (of course Kelly puts her to shame) ... we had a son born at 27 weeks who lived 5 days .... so it isn't like losing a 49 year old son.
But with a 22 and a 20 year old I can feel his pain for sure

Sad news for sure. I DO have one question....why would anyone go mtn climbing alone? BC- Yeah, that's not a good thing, and I can only think that it was the overconfidence that sometimes comes from being good at something and maybe taking a risk that others less experienced might not. I know I read that he was wanting to climb the 100 Highest points in Washington State before he reached the age of 50, and that this was #82 and he was 49, so maybe scheduling a climbing partner might be something he decided to forego on a few of them. That's TOTAL speculation on my part, based on a limited peice of info we've been given. I always hate to blame the deceased for possible errors in judgement, and really dislike it when the Media does. (I recall the morning after JFK Jr. crashed his Plane, ABC's John Stossel, who's a private pilot himself, was talking about how he'd left New York flying a similar small plane and the exact same route, like an hour before Kennedy, and pretty much calling him a Moron for leaving that late in the day with the afternoon haze and then nightfall approaching. While that was undoubtably true, it seemed kind of inappropriate to be mentioning on the air while rescue crews are visible on TV, still searching the water behind him ).

Very bad news! As all have said it's never something for any parent should go through, and in that respect it puts boxing into perspective! There are more important things that come first.

I can't imagine anything in Life EVER coming close to matching the Loss of a Child. When they're Born, outliving them is the last thing that crosses your mind. I know what Mike is saying about John Arum being 49 and it's not as devestating as a younster dying, but I'm sure it doesn't make it any easier for Bob and Lovey Arum.
