You must have been one of the very few from outside Scotland to give him a chance Billy! I don't think watching it on tv actually does it justice as far as the atmosphere goes, it was the best I've ever been to, was totally red hot! I've been to a lot of his fights & always said the Burns fans are great but they took it to another level on Saturday, can't describe how much of a buzz it was, great fight & very proud of him! Bring on the first defence

I actually called that one (if you don't beleive me, then check the predictions on the Budweiser Boxing Forum, I acutally finished the year in Second Place in their Prediction League).
I don't know why, but I just saw Burns being able to win the fight just on sure willpower and grinding it out. The Location was EVERYTHING, the Synergy of the event was electric and carried the day. Martinez simply wasn't going to overcome all that and leave Glasgow with his title still in tow. Another great call from Billy C.!!!!

It's ok I believe you Dave, lol well done to the both of you as you were in the minority!
I said a while back when the fight was being mooted for Puerto Rico that people were overrating Martinez a tad, when he won the title against Cook he was being outboxed & was almost put on his arse, also he was made out to be a massive puncher but I noticed that he couldn't stop Walter Estrada who'd been stopped by Scott Harrison at feather & Kevin Mitchell at 130 so basically anyone half decent had stopped the guy but Martinez couldn't & I thought that was telling.
Yeah Billy it was fantastic mate, as I say I can't wait for his first defence, Frank Warren wants him defending before the end of the year so bring it on!

What a upset win for Burns,i admit i thought Martinez would have been to good and have the power to stop this fight early.Of course im glad i was wrong and the Scots have a World Champion, but i thought Martinez looked a very poor Champion on his display in the ring.Burns is not a big puncher but seemed at times he was hurting Martinez with some excellent shots, and Martinez looked like a novice swinging wildly most of the time. Even on TV Barry the atmosphere at the event was electric, reminded me the night Lennox Lewis beat Razor Ruddock you could feel a tingle in the air.

But since I'm being questioned by some of our other Forum Members, here's the thread from the Budweiser Boxing Forum where I made the pick on Friday at 12:24 PM, I'm the 13th one from the top: budweiserboxing.forumcircle.com/viewtopic.php?t=5524&start=0

Sorry guys i just cannot resist posting this. Even After consulting with BillyC i still picked Steve Molitor to beat Booth in the UK over the weekend. So i suppose the radio show on Monday will be taken over with BillyC lauding me to new hieghts.

DA- The problem is that you have to pick it WITH BC to get the laurels Btw, I went with Molitor myself, even though I agreed with everything he said Friday. I just had a funny feeling that Jason Booth wouldn't handle the big stage well in his first title shot, especially with the pressure of fighting at home, and watching the fight I really DID think Jason didn't fight nearly as well as he could've. I'd take him in a rematch.

Dave you are so bloody right i got no accolade from BillyC on his program, yet he gets one right and still boasting about it even now lol.Joking apart i was surprised how far Molitor had gone back from his earlier contest in the Uk.Yes i would give Booth a better chance in a return match,if he moved and used his skills more.
