Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that the fight between WBO junior lightweight titleholder Ricky Burns of Scotland and unbeaten mandatory challenger Adrien Broner is headed for Broner's home town of Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena to be televised on HBO on Nov. 26.
The 22-year-old Broner (21-0, 17 knockouts) is coming off consecutive HBO appearances in which he outpointed former titleholder Daniel Ponce de Leon in March and scored a first-round knockout of Jason Litzau in June.
Burns (39-2, 9 KOs) has won 17 consecutive fights since losing a decision to Carl Johanneson in 2007.
The 28-year-old from Coatbridge has made three title defenses since rising from a first-round knockdown to beat Roman Martinez and claim the vacant belt in September.
That stretch includes consecutive knockouts over Joseph Laryea and Nicky Cook, respectively, in the seventh and first rounds.

I think the fight is great for Broner but ridiculous for Burns. For Broner it's a chance to beat perhaps the number one boxer at 130lbs and win his first World title. But for Burns it's a case of fighting the new kid on the block who has no name, no accompanying title, no money.... It's the sort of fight like Barrera vs Pacquiao I. The champion accepting a fight against a guy who is much better than his prospect status would suggest. Super featherweight isn't the most glamourous of divisions right now but i'm sure Burns could make more money from fighting someone like Fana for the Ring title, followed by a defence of that title and then a fight against the elite in the division. Burns isn't ever going to be an elite fighter so he might as well make as much money as he can. Kudos to the guy for accepting a fight against the likes of Broner but if it falls through it isn't a bad thing for Burns.

Billy C made the good point on his show this week that if Burns is struggling to make the weight then accept the fight, take the money and then win or lose he still walks away with a few hundred thousand dollars. He isn't going to win that kind of money in most fights. I think it could be more a case of not wanting to fight a tough unknown fighter like Broner which is understandable. If you're going to lose your title at least do it for a big payday and against an elite fighter (not an unknown). But i hope Burns doesn't just win another pointless title and sit on it. He should go for a fight against Mzonke Fana IMO or take the fight with Broner then move up. But take the money while it's on offer.

Like you said the other day, the only sane possiblity is that they're trying to drive up the price. With him moving up anyway, it's a no-brainer.

In this biz....$300K+ paydays DO NOT come often...especially for a guy like Burns who has no drawing power in the States....Take the money Ricky and fight your ass off!

It is now officially off. Burns has vacated his title and moved up. He will fight Michael Katsidis in his first fight at 135lbs. At least i think that means he wasn't ducking Broner. I think Katsidis even at this stage is a more dangerous foe. Maybe Burns really is struggling to make weight. He is 5ft10 afterall.
