The initial inductees were announced for the new New York Boxing Hall of Fame and for the most part were obvious choices and all but ONE are International Boxing Hall of Fame Members and legendary icons:
“Sugar” Ray Robinson, Jake “Bronx Bull” LaMotta, Carmen “Upstate Onion Farmer” Basilio, Carlos Ortiz, Mike “Bodysnatcher” McCallum, Gene “The Fighting Marine” Tunney, Benny “The Ghetto Wizard” Leonard, Tony Canzoneri, “Iron” Mike Tyson, Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe...........
Wait a second, Riddick Bowe??? Let me get this straight, there's no Barney Ross, but Bowe makes the cut? Obviously somebody is dealing in Sympathy and not with their Heads.

So you mean Barney Ross COULD have been on inducted but Bowe took his place?
Bowe was very good but Ross is famously one of the best lightweight/welterweights of all time.

Yeah, but I'm sure like someone mentioned, because it's the first year, they probably wanted to have someone that fit three criteria in that they were: Local, fought recently (by HOF standards), is able to bring in enough locals to fill seats. As much as we think he's a joke, Bowe still can do those three things....at least as well as anyone else in NYC that qualifies not named Mike Tyson.
