Recently, Bobby Gunn has claimed the World Bare Knuckle Title and this past weekend, made a defnese and won.
There are a lot of people who say that BKB is barbaric...but I think it is safer then MMA IF there are the proper medical staff present during the fights.
I also think that if the rules were modified a bit, we WOULD get the best of both worlds (gloved boxing and MMA).
What do you think?

I think it's a throwback to an Era who's time has passed, it's safer with gloves so why return to bareknuckle? More than likely the number of serious vision problems would increase as knuckles clash into the eye, and for that alone I wouldn't support it.

If you look at it like that...you are right. They did not ban it for nothing. BUT...since MMA, I say why not? MMA is a WORSE version of combat than BareKnuckle Boxing....I was speaking with a promoter the other day that does both...boxing and MMA and he told me that for MMA events, the blood, cuts and head injurys are WAY higher than boxing, but the insurance is less! Go figure.

BC- It might very well be that because it's been around longer and the promoters set in their ways as far as using a particular provider, they don't shop around (or there are not as many interested providers) for the more established sport. MMA is new, so it's easier to get someone to jump onboard. In this case, it sounds like your friend does that though. My guess is that the Insurance company in this case hasn't done it's risk tables and doesn't realize what your friend knows.....and he's sure not going to point it out to them and see the MMA rates rise

bare knuckle fighting is stupid. If we can have that, why is it that 15 rounds fights are considered "so dangerous", but this isnt? Lets bring back prohibition too while we are at it.

Dave- Like we've discussed before, the 13th thru-15th Rounds had NOTHING to do with Safety, it had EVERYTHING to do with fitting a fight inside a one hour time frame back when Major Network TV was still involved. If there was some way to advertise on the fighters hands via tattoos, they'd drop the gloves in a heartbeat for a little extra $$. The powers that be are for safety.........when and if it's convenient and doesn't cost them anything.

I can't say i'm a fan of BKB and i don't think it's a sport or even talent filled. However, i will say that it's much fairer than gloved boxing. For starters, there are no corrupt promoters. Secondly, fights have two NEUTRAL referees who do not belong to either clan/family. They also fight in neutral venues like car parks, factories or countryside roads. In that sense, there are no corrupt officials, judges, promoters and venues are always venues. So it's not all bad.

Watch the film "Knuckle" which came out this year. Very good insight into the World of BKB told from the views of several Irish clans who have been at perpetual war with each other for years. www.imdb.com/title/tt1606259/
