On today's show, Billy C. was talking about Marlon Starlings HOF Chances and I brought up the difficulty in getting one of the coveted 45 ballot slots, much less being one of the 3 top vote-getters. I thought it might make a good thread to post up the 45 names and see where Marlon might slide in.
My #1 spot would be Sven Ottke, since IMO he didn't accomplish a whole hell of a lot other than remaining undefeated and ducking Joe Calzaghe, the only real threat he ever had at 168. I also think that after all these years on the ballot, it might be time to give Al Hostak a rest, he was a great fighter but he's been on there forever and he's simply not getting the votes, it's NOT going to happen for him. Dave Sands and Ken Overlin appear to be other "dead wood" candidates taking up space while never coming close to getting in.
I'm all for a system like Baseball has, any year you don't get 5% of the vote then your dropped and if you don't get 75% after 15 tries, then your left to the Veterans Committee to decide. This having the same names strike out while others don't even get a pitch to swing at is getting tiresome. Not just for Marlon that BC wants, but also for my personal favorite Lupe Pintor, both are better than many already in the Hall, they just don't have the political connections to get on the damn ballot. Here were this years 45, and since the List is kind of like the Supreme Court in that appointments are for life (I've never seen anyone removed from the ballot without getting inducted), then I imagine 42 of these names (minus only Hearns, Too Sharp, and Cocoa Kid) will be back again NEXT YEAR:
1. Georgie Abrams
2. Horacio Acavallo
3. Joey Archer
4. Jose Becerra
5. Johnny Bratton
6. Jimmy Carruthers
7. Donald Curry
