OK I noticed it about 2 years ago it happens often and last night it really sunk in especially since I said prior to the Alexander/Kotelnik bout that for some reason Devon is not going to shine tonight...He won but looked horrible doing it...
HBO whenever they profile fighters and Max talks about how great their future is and how high his hopes are for them the fighter either looks like shit or mloses....Last night he praised Peterson and they did a profiles on him and his brother and he lost looking like shit in the process....I swear they are a jinx!!!!!
Anyone ever notice that happens more often then not?

Yet one more thing I like about Showtime as opposed to HBO is that they tend to resist those little featurettes that preceed the fighters coming out. I know that dirtbag Lampley LOVES doing them, it gives the talking hairdo a chance to show off his narration skills and I think he probably has a hand in writing the things, it sure sounds like his work. I don't mind a quick background, but HBO takes it to the extreme. So there you have it, I don't really care if it serves to jinx a fighter or not, I'd like to see them cut them out simply because I think they suck

They do suck agreed...Too much drama....I just really gave thought to it last night and was like "This shit happens almost everytime HBO does this or when Max hypes a fighter".....Crazy thing it is...If I was an HBO fighter I would have it in my contract that they DO NOT PROFILE ME

Ha ha ha yeah but there would be a large amount of the betting public that would at least have the right to watch the fights before knowing they lost their money... Can you imagine the reaction of some poor slob with a few grand bet on a fight then all of a sudden HBO starts a profile of the fighter he bet on....

I had seen both fighters several times and honestly I was surprised people though Peterson would win this fight .... when HBO started hyping him I was thinking to myself wow that is a lot of production on a guy who is going to lose.

Mike- The problem is that HBO doesn't seem to know that any other TV boxing exists other than what they air. To THEM, the Peterson Brothers story is Fresh and New, but the REST of us have been hearing about it for FOUR YEARS NOW. It's like when Kassim Ouma first fought on HBO and Lampley had that long ass peice about his childhood being spent in the Army and then mentioned it CONSTANTLY throughout the fight. The rest of us had seen Ouma on ESPN, Versus, Shobox, you name it. I didn't know ANYBODY who followed boxing even slightly that HADN'T seen Kassim Ouma at that point....hell, he'd been the friggin IBF Champ back in 2004. A F'ing MOVIE was being made about it, but yet.......... Merchant admitted he'd never seen him fight (how tough would've it have been to watch easily available footage?) and Lampley was like a kid with a new toy. Only Steward, who must've been laughing his ass off at his partners, had seen him fight.

It was clear that HBO didn't care who was likely to win the fight they just want the story ... that is one thing that really pisses me off about HBO Boxing is every fighter has to have a back story ... sometime a boxer is just a thug ... it doesn't have to be a lifetime movie every time out

Sad but true yes somethimes these guys are just outright thugs punks etc...Though some do have good back stories and ones that are truly amazing...Miranda is one of those fighters....But in truth if HBO has a fighter who has 6 toes on one foot there would be a background story on how the guy had problems finding shoes to fit properly

They're in LOVE with the background story........but PLEASE don't take every single fight you do and treat it like your creating another episode of your Legendary Nights Series you ran a few years back. Not EVERY Boxer has some kind of personal story that needs my attention.

HBO has sunk deep. They are as bad to listen to as B-Hop. What we REALLY need now, and I honestly believe its time, is the TBN...TOTAL BOXING NETWORK. 24 hours per day, seven days per week of ONLY Boxing.

Don't I WISH!!!!!......My wife can hardly get me to put out now a 24/7 boxing channel would cause me divorce......It really would be a great thing and I really think it would sell....Too bad there is none...Yet we have the Golf channel

A dedicated boxing channel would be great!! It could show tons and tons of old footage and throw on a few news bulletins a day, and have some talk/phone in shows too. It'd create jobs!
