What are thoughts on him? I personally liken him to a bit more refined John Duddy, slighty more power, slightly better defense, slightly more well rounded but still not good enough at anything to hang with the big time boys and be a threat....
Curious on what others think as he has another bout coming up against another no hopeful...It has been 4 years now time to step it up the loss was 2 years agho we have had plenty of time to rebuild confidence...I am surprised he has not stepped up more as Steward is his trainer

Thank You Billy for elaborating on that very very in depth analysis ;D

Was one of the hyped irish-americans in the same vein as John Duddy. Likeable guys, but maybe lacking the top level talent of prizefighting. Always make for entertaining fights though!!

LOL...it really is the only thing you can say about him....he is VERY over-rated! Also...I would also like to point out that Manny can work with a guy (now) who is established and tweak him a bit and help him do great things..ala Lewis and Klitschko, however his days of taking a young fighter and starting from scratch (Ealry Kronk) are over...as we can see with Lee. (better ?)

think he has potential but he's been moved along very slowly, he was brilliant against willy gibbs and i thought he would step it up from there but he's been fighting nobodies since then and hasnt looked impressive, i dont rate john duddy as more then a good tough club fighter, the best out of all these irish is matthew macklin by a long way and i fully expect him to win a world title in the next year or so

I like Macklin! Him and Darren Barker could have a good rivalry.

(better ?) Billy- To be honest, and this isn't easy to say since I've talked to Manny and there couldn't be a nicer guy in the Sport, BUT....... other than Tommy Hearns, how many of those guys at Kronk WEREN'T shot before they ever hit 30??? The 95 Degree Heat, the constant Gym Wars, he produced a lot of Champions but they all were shooting stars that flamed out quick. Tweaking other peoples fighters has provided him his niche. P.S. It's kind of funny that he took Moorer into his home and was like a Father figure to him, and MM the Headcase became Teddy's claim to fame/tweaking project on MANNY'S work.

Donald Curry immediately after destroying Milton McCrory with a Left Hook (a righthand followed when he got up, but wasn't really needed): "He carries his Right Hand too low, ALL Kronk fighters do". And he was right, they all emmulated Tommy Hearns and were trained the same way, and the fault existed with almost all of them.

Moorer has no loyalty I guess.....But yeah Manny has not made a top level fighter since the 80's maybe early 90's on his own you are right but even guys he has tweaked other then LL ands Wlad have not done overly well....Manny is a hell of a nice guy who at this point in his career probably figures he does not need the nonsense of a young fighter....As a full time trainer trying to bring a young fighter to the top it is a 24/7 job you might as well be their Parent....When they need money, when they are in trouble you help, when they don't show up for the gym you look for them....A lot of work

For anyone who thinks that Manny can just magically make ANY tall fighter a Champion, they need to be reminded he was with Fields

Back to overhyped Irish fighters, remember Bernard Dunne? Did well to win that WBA title, what a great stoppage! But he was always prone to the big hitters. Still he really got the Irish in a similar manner to McGuigan!!

Well Andy won last night via 8th round stoppage but again it was against a more then subpar fighter who he should not even be in the ring with at this stage of his career

Yeah, Dunne was exciting, but there was no denying he was going to trade with someone who had too much for him at some point and Martinez and Poonsawat K. just couldn't miss him. Like you say, they were doing good to get him to a title, and it WAS exciting while it lasted.
